2007 was an amazing year for MS software. 2008 could only have gone down. I do see your point on $100, as well as maintaining. However M$ isn't a "maintain" type of company. They are aggressive and probably want market share as much as profitability. Remember the $50 price cut comes right back in a Live account and a few game royalties. And if that consumer purchased the PS3 as their HD console, that's revenue M$ could probably not make up.
So, though I see your point, I don't believe M$ thinks that way. I do think Sony does. They have been TOO patient.
