I don't think you have to spend that much for a high quality system, I just finished mine and I spent about $1750 for everything from a top of the line 1080p LCD, 7.1 THX certified sound system, 2 Tuner HD DVR box, entirely new cables, and one of the best universal remotes on the market that allows anyone and everyone to operate it with one-touch ease.

edit: nm, I thought you were saying $3500 for just the A/V setup. Also I double checked some prices, I was off by a fair bit, the audio system was less than I thought, I got it about a year ago.

If you spend less than 2000$ for your entire system, your really not getting a whole lot. I'm not saying to go do a Kwaad, and wait till it comes out on BluRay, and watch it at home... cause it's better than the theater either.

But a "good" TV will cost you around 1500$, and then when you add the sound, your adding another 300-500$ (for a decent one.

And 7.1 is BS. It's a joke. It's a proven fact 7.1 is not noticeably better than a 5.1 The "9.1" that does not really exist, is just plain stupid.

Truthfully, a 4.1 is all you would ever need, but the 5th 'center' speaker is really nice, as it allows for a 'central' music from the front, without having to enlarge the other two, but truth-be-told, I really dont know why there isnt a 4.1

The only way I can warrent more than a 5.1, is if you put speakers above/below you. (wtf how would that work?)

If there is anything you've ever posted on this site that I could agree with it would be right here.

As for 4.1, it sorta happened in the 70's with Quadraphonic Stereo.   It was 4.0.  The ".1" always refers to the subwoofer of which they didn't have in the ealy 70's.
