Pikmin 3, as a huge fan of the first two games and someone who pretty much bought a Wii U at launch so I could GET it when it released (Which of course it was delayed), was a massive dissapointment. If I had never played the first two games, and knew how a Pikmin game is SUPPOSED to be/play (IE multiple save files, zoomable camera control, and most importantly, independent second-stick Pikmin control), I would have thought Pikmin 3 was just dandy. But the fact is, I did play Pikmin 1 & 2, which are excellent games, and those elements previously mentioned, most especially the Pikmin control, were HUGE parts of the gameplay. Taking out the Pikmin control literally cuts the strategy and ability of the player in half. There was no call for it or legitimate reason to do it. ONLY having the ability to pick up and throw Pikmin makes the experience muted and watered down to the extreme, and makes puzzle solving, but more importantly enemy/boss battles, a massive headache.

So considering how much of a letdown P3 was (after my having been SO excited for it), I'm going to pick Lego City as the best game of 2013 for Wii U (outside of Mario). And that's saying something, considering that I had never liked a Lego game before that. It still sadly has the same floaty platforming and slippery physics, none of that was improved from other Lego games. But the original story is rather well done, humorous, and it's pretty fun running around the big city once it gradually opens up to you.
