I blame Dark Dawn. It was not bad, but was worst than the prequels by a lot. I felt it had way more hand holding and was much more childish. Not saying the original was R+, but you start the game in the middle of a disaster, witness a family being destroyed and gets kicked by two demon like characters. And that's just the first 5 minutes.
I love the series, but when Isaac was not added to smash, i lost my hope. Either he did not had enough support, or he had support and Nintendo decided to ignore it even then. Either way a bad sign.
Also Dark Dawn ends with huge cliffhanger, so Camelot had the intention of making on more. Since they have not done it so far, i can only think the sales were weak and they gave up.
