You do not buy console for tekken, you want to buy console for Soul Calibur... even if you switch sides - that is the game that made you do it. You too are too picky about my examples (SC)... Have you seen SC when it came out?

Tekken 3 was, as of Feb 2014, the second best selling fighting game of all time, with 8.3 Million sales worldwide.

That was the biggest fighting game of the generation. So I'm sure it sold some consoles.
However, on such a successful platform as PlayStation 1, with games like Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear Solid, it's more difficult to be "the game that sells a console".

And yes I did see, and play, Soul Calibur when it first came out. I did the same for it's predecessor, Soul Edge (Blade). Are you trying to pull the age card again? Or are you looking for my impression of it?
Since I had already played Soul Edge, along with other fighting games with a focus on weapons such as Bushido Blade, and Samurai Showdown, I was already quite familiar with the concept. However, it's never been to my liking to block using a button instead of holding back, and I prefer fighting games without a strong focus on weapons like this. Though I did still enjoy playing it, and SC2 and 3 as well.

I'm not being picky about it. It's just that Tekken 3 set the benchmark for 3D fighting, and is still today the best selling 3D fighting game.

You may very well be right, well live google; but you see it is not strictly about a number (it is not a single dimensional threshold, spark threshold is hyperspace territory), it may have sold even better than other classics - I acknowledge its quality.(Kinect sold... how many units?)
