I don't think you have to spend that much for a high quality system, I just finished mine and I spent about $1750 for everything from a top of the line 1080p LCD, 7.1 THX certified sound system, 2 Tuner HD DVR box, entirely new cables, and one of the best universal remotes on the market that allows anyone and everyone to operate it with one-touch ease.

edit: nm, I thought you were saying $3500 for just the A/V setup. Also I double checked some prices, I was off by a fair bit, the audio system was less than I thought, I got it about a year ago.

If you spend less than 2000$ for your entire system, your really not getting a whole lot. I'm not saying to go do a Kwaad, and wait till it comes out on BluRay, and watch it at home... cause it's better than the theater either.

But a "good" TV will cost you around 1500$, and then when you add the sound, your adding another 300-500$ (for a decent one.

And 7.1 is BS. It's a joke. It's a proven fact 7.1 is not noticeably better than a 5.1 The "9.1" that does not really exist, is just plain stupid.

Truthfully, a 4.1 is all you would ever need, but the 5th 'center' speaker is really nice, as it allows for a 'central' music from the front, without having to enlarge the other two, but truth-be-told, I really dont know why there isnt a 4.1

The only way I can warrent more than a 5.1, is if you put speakers above/below you. (wtf how would that work?)

Few things. First both the TV and the Sound system I own would cost you more than you're talking about ($2k) if you went into the store to buy them yourself. I live in Omaha, NE which is home to the largest single location furniture store in the world. Every year there is a stockholders sale for Berkshire Hathaway. To say we get good deals is an understatement, just for flashing the stockholder badge you get the first 25% off electronics and then the haggling starts. Although I prefer to haggle them down and then flash the badge.

With that said, you're completely wrong if you think price is the best way to determine how good your system is.

As for the rest of your post, I find it curious that you were unable to respond to my first post which showed why your OP was pointless and silly but now you're perfectly capable of attacking my audio system choice as if you know precisely what I purchased. Ironically I never said anywhere in my post "ZOMG 7.1 is teh bezt" and yet you lashed out like thats what I said. Truth be told I tend to agree that 7.1 isn't really that much different from 5.1 but we originally ordered the 5.1 and it arrived damaged so I had them upgrade us to 7.1 with the replacement. But please do feel free to continue your rant, I'm curious what else you've been able to divine about me and my purchases.

PS - Don't you own a 40" Samsung LCD? I might have the model wrong but I could of swore you said you had a LN40A550.

PPS - I would still love to hear your response to the topic if you have one.
