I never supported the Xbox brand for the same reason why I really disliked Sony. Both got into the gaming industry for the wrong reasons:
- Sony as a F*** you to Nintendo when they got screwed over with the partnership;
- MS because they wanted to use the console as a trojan horse to get windows into the living room.
Since then I've always given Sony the time of day as they have proven over the last 4 generations that they can commit to gamers. Whether they are profiting as a company or not they will pump out games and commit.
MS on the other hand are all over the place. They quit early with OG Xbox. They stopped early with the 360. Currently, like you said, their focus seems to be shifting onto PC, but it still looks like they are some what committed to making games.
The big difference is they have achieved their goal of bringing windows to the living room. Xbox users now all use the One Drive, use the Windows store and soon will have better windows 10 integration.
With the rumours of regular hardware updates the Xbox is heading towards becoming something like a steam machine and I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a machine that will have word, Excel etc with the difference being it will be considered a console and due to that, they will have monopoly on what browser you use, what office suite you use and what gaming store you use.
Basically, MS has worked out a way to have monopoly on all the things they were told they can't have a monopoly on.
Credit to Phil or whoever is in charge as they have certainly come a long way and are making it happen.
