What's wrong with Sticker Star? I havemt played it but it has pretty good reviews (7-8) and sold well (2+ million). It did good critically and commercially so I'm confused why making a game similar to that is a bad idea.

It got good reviews because of the Paper Mario name and it sold well for the same reason. However, the game is broken at its core. The only reward for battles are coins which can be used to buy stickers that get used up in battles; if you don't enter battles, then you don't need stickers and then you don't need coins to buy new stickers. Another annoyance are stupid puzzles that require certain stickers; if you don't have them with you (high chance), you'll have to travel back to town. These puzzles aren't just restricted to environments, but also include boss fights; without the correct stickers, most bosses become virtually unbeatable.

That's not to say that the overall formula couldn't be used to create a fun game, but it needs some serious work. However, even at its best, the new formula would still pale in comparison to the formula of the first two Paper Mario games. The best thing about Sticker Star was the world map that allowed you to select stages, but it should have had a lot more of them.

So basically it had a few design flaws (which Color Splash could very well fix) and isn't as good as the first 2 (first 2 are considered amazing, so not amazing=bad).
