Sticker Star was a good idea, with not so good execution. The stickers gave you a wide variety of attacks, but their consumable nature means you never really want to use a good one. Plus, you sometimes need the stickers to solve puzzles, so you doubly don't want to use them.
In this one, Mario has an ink meter. If instead of consuming stickers, Mario uses consumable ink to attack, that'd fix a lot of the issues. I'm not thrilled about it, but it still could be good.
