2D Mario vs 3D Mario?

I enjoyed 3D World, but it's not up to the level of Galaxy 1/2, 64, Bros 3, or World.

The games just don't really seem like they did anything that special, they just brought 2D Mario to 3D, I think those games would've been much better if they were treated like a proper sequel to the classic 2D games, but in 3D, instead of just making Mario 3 again.
