I have to wonder why people believe that the majority of Console owners have gaming PCs. Its even more interesting if you believe that the Xbox brand has devalued because MS is bringing their games to both platforms. MS gameplan has always been to integrate Windows with a piece of hardware under the TV. If anything, this shows that MS is more committed to the Xbox brand and success then thinking its a failure. Gaming PCs are not suddenly going to appear under the TV for the majority of console players anytime soon. Even for PC gamers this is a very small demographic who have gaming PCs hooked to their TV.
MS clearly understand this and also understand the importance of gaming on PC. So with that in mind, they are looking to capture both markets instead of just the one. MS abandon the PC market under Dom but under Phil it seems he has a much more ambitious plan in mind.
MS does understand that they have lost this gen to Sony in marketshare but that does not mean they cannot compete, keep the Brand profitable and also increase Xbox ecosystem large by incorporating both console and PC. The Xbox console is not going away anytime soon nor will support suddenly dry up. MS still need that device under the TV but MS also wants to further support Win 10 adoption and increase developers support of the Windows Store once both are combined with all of their devices. In the meantime if they get PS4 only console owners to upgrade to Win 10, buy from the windows Store and use whatever XBl like functionality on the PC to play their games, I am sure MS is considering that a win.
