I highly doubt that the rumor in the OP is accurate. With Pokémon Sun/Moon coming to the 3DS this fall, it now seems very unlikely to me that the 3DS will be getting replaced in 2016. If anything, I now think the NX home console will be the 2016 release and will come out before the handheld component.
