Microsoft revealed the XB1 back in May 2013 and released it in November iirc. It's a common strategy these days to reveal the device near its launch. People these days are too anxious and distracted to keep patiently waiting for a gadget that will take 1 or 2 years to launch... that's why companies have been adopting this strategy lately.
