I'm also still waiting for a proper Luigi's Mansion sequel. The original had so many memorable components (the music and bosses in particular), while the 3DS version just felt like a chore to play through to the point where I couldn't even finish it.
OT: The most painful wait is definitely F-Zero, followed by the Elder Scrolls. F-Zero GX is still the greatest, most action-packed racing game of all time, while Skyrim offered the definitive adventure game experience.
And then there's games like Knights of the Old Republic, Dead Space, Conker and Diddy Kong Racing, where the wait is likely to go on forever. In that sense they might be the most painful.
