Gen 4 is far and away the best.
...Anyway, I've been thinking about this, and if Sun and Moon have as few new Pokemon as I think it will, and Gen 7 lasts only one game like I think it will, and strongly ties Zygarde into the plot like I think it will, it will literally be exactly what I was saying Gen 6.5 would be - only difference being that GF are calling it a new gen when I'd consider it a half gen.
ESPECIALLY if there are no new starters.
My definition of gen 6.5 was a small roster of new pokemon (30-70) in a new region "far from Kalos" with a new story that somehow connects to the story started in Kalos and resolves the Zygarde, and may or may not include new starters. After this last game or games, the next gen, Gen "7" would start on the NX. Replace 6.5 with 7 and "7" with 8 and, as far as I can see, that's still likely what will happen, so I'm peachy.
In which case I'm 100% down with Sun and Moon. I don't really care how they catagorize these games/generations as long as 2017 starts with a fresh new Pokemon generation exclusive to and built specifically for NX. And especially as long as they don't restrict Gen 4 best gen to the growingly anchient 3DS hardware.
