That's so much bigger in scope that it couldn't be done with Gamefreak's staff. They would have to either massively expand or outsource work. But when that is done, the resulting game is less focused and tends to be inconsistent in quality because so many different people worked on it. It's hard to coordinate who does what and when, and then have everything come together for a unified whole. Like I said, if Gamefreak wanted to create big 3D worlds, they would have already done more with Pokémon on home consoles. |
No, they wouldn't have. They treasure a portable experience over the benefits of more powerful hardware. With NX, they won't need to compromise anymore. The NXDS will be at least Vita level, most likely even more powerful, meaning they will have the tech. I don't think they'd need a very many more staffers at all. Not so many that it'll become unfocused. The great thing about XY is that they've renderd all of the Pokemon up to this point beyond what was needed for 3DS. This is clearly for future proofing. They no longer need to worry about spending a massive amount of recourses modeling 700+ Pokemon, formes, and varients from scratch again. They can just recycle old models over and over indefinitely. When Pokemon eventually makes that jump, and it will, all they'll need to do is work on the 100 or so new models and focus on animating the other models.
