Most games in the PS2 era didn't even touch 1 GB, the was a link someone posted which detailed the sizes of all the popular games of the era and only a handful wouldn't have fit on a single layer disc and a very few would not have fit at all, the mini-disc excuse is one of the most exaggerated in gaming history as 90% of games would have fit on them with enough space to spare, the average size of a game back then was around 600-700mb. It would have only affected games like FFX that use a tonne of video files. PS2 era just comes down to Playstation's popularity and the long standing fact that most developers have only ever wanted to develop solely for one platform to reduce work load and costs. |
Like I wrote, definitely some games couldn't fit on GC discs, like you wrote FFX is good example of very strong title that couldn't be on GC disc. I also wrote that isn't one of main reason why GC failed but definitely was problem in some degree, the main reason is PS2.
