Shadow1980 said: Since the topic of generations was brought up, what are we going to call the NX when it comes out, assuming it's a conventional console? Is it 9th-gen by default simply by merit of being the Wii U's successor, or is it simply a second 8th-gen system designed to compete more directly with the PS4 and XBO? We've never really faced a situation like this where a major console is effectively abandoned in the middle of an ongoing generation and replaced, that is again assuming it's a console. So, early 9th-gen system, or a mid-gen 8th-gen replacement for an underperforming 8th-gen system? |
Interesting topic. Deserves its own thread.
If NX releases this year then I would consider it 8th gen. I think we also have to consider time as a factor when we determine when the next gen starts. If NX releases 2017 I think thats the crossover point but since there is not distinctive crossover line it's a little fuzzy if we should call it 9th gen. 2018 onwards is definitely 9th gen for me.
