so why failed the gamecube? Because of mini disc format ? :D Why failed the N64? Because of Card Ridges?
There were also people who bought ps3 games for ps2. Or even xbox one games for xbox 360.. Its more on the wii bcause the wii was a big casual only machine (the only reason the system had success at all) and casuals didnt got it. I didnt was much into gaming in 2011/2012 but it was very hard to dont see the news a new nintendo console is coming. It was everywhere in the media. The only reason the wii was a success is because of the big casual market who wanted to play wii sports with their kids or whatever. You just backed this up with your last reply by saying those people didnt understand the wii u was a new system. The nintendos only chances to get success it to aim at the casual market. And they DONT need zelda for that. They need something like wii sports, candy crush, whatever.
The Wii U´s userbase is probl divided into 50% Nintendo fans and 50% casuals/kids who want to play mario/their parents want them to play mario/mario kart and co). With 12-13 mio sold consoles, this means that are at best at the moment 7mio people that are really hardcore interested in nintendo games. If nintendo want success, they need to get around 80% of their userbase from the casual market.Like I said before, Zelda wont help. With NX btw they are already doing bigger mistakes then with wii u. Release mitcycle (where people didnt migrated to ps3/xbox 360, but to ps4 and this system will also be around for a while). IF its nots a casual machine, it will fail. If its a hardcore gamer machine (zelda would make sense) if will fail. |
Yes one of reasons why GC failed is Mini Disk, but most important was huge popularity of best selling console ever. I dont think N64 failed, but reason why didn't had much better sales is cartridge format, because capacity was to limited for 3D games, so all 3rd party skipped N64, for instance only reason why Final Fantasy 7 wasn't on N64 was cartridge format.
When you have product more than 3 years on market and still not consumer are aware of it, you have problem, and that problem was directly associated with marketing and later popularity of console.
You are a gamer, you following gaming news and you are informed, but other groups of potential customers (espacily casuals) that largle owned Wii they didn't followed every news or detail about Wii U, and with terrible marketing and name they thought Wii U is addon for Wii, and casuals that has Wii already moved from Wii to different platforms, they didnt want nothing for their Wii they dont use.
You are in denial if you really think that terrible marketing and bad name didn't had any impact on Wii U sales.

Zelda U need if they want to attract core gamers, no one gamer or Nintendo fan will buy console to play Wii Sports or Candy Crash. They need different types of game to attract different types of buyers, you forgetting Wii had Wii Sports and Zelda like launch titles, perefect combination. On NX new 3D Mario and Zelda U will also be very strong combination, 3D Mario will attract casuals and kids and familys, while Zelda will attract core gamers.
Yes, but point is that Wii U isn't appealing product because Nintendo made so many mistakes, so console was not desirable product to any potential buyers, that's why Wii U have so terrible sales. If Nintendo didn't make just some of those mistakes, Wii U would be more desirable product and sales would be better. And like I wrote, weak launch titles are one of mistakes made with Wii U, so Zelda on NX will definitely help.
Like I wrote, biggest single mistake for Wii U was terrible marketing and bad name, not release time, but that definitely was one of problems. But Nintendo is in very bad position, beacuse they can't wait around 2019. with Wii U to Sony/MS realase they their next consoles, best thing they in this situation is to release appealing product in mid generation.
Bottom of line you are in denial if you really think that terrible marketing and bad name didn't had any impact on Wii U sales, or if you think that Zelda U like launch title will not help NX at all and that game will not have much better sales.
