Wii U ended 2015. with 12.5m, its very unrealistic expecting that Zelda U would move that number to 20m consoles when Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon managed to hold sales of Wii U at around 3.5m for whole year. With Zelda U launched in 2015. probably Wii U would end up somewhere around 14m instead 12.5m.

A good price drop and a good bundle would have done wonders. I really think that if you added Zelda U, we would have seen something special happen. Nintendo just didn't want to gamble on it and turning around Wii U.

But we already got price drop and good bundles this holiday season, and yet sales were on level of previous year. With Zelda U Wii U would sell probably around 1.5m better, but also without Splatoon sell numbers would be much worse. Wii U is very long in such a state that nothing really cant make big difference and turn around Wii U, Wii U basically died after first year. Nintendo realised that after launch of MK8, with MK8 Wii U start selling much better, but overall again those numbers were very bad, I think Nintendo than decided to go forward with NX and shorten life of Wii U.
