Gender displacement is a real, legitimate thing, where a person's brain can be emotionally wired like a girl/boy, but be in the wrong body. For these instances, psychologists will typically concede and prescribe hormone treatment, coupled with gender therapy before eventually leading to reassignment surgery.

However, it is an exceedingly RARE legitimate thing.

More than the lion's share of all of these "transgenders" or whatever some of the "more special" ones want to call themselves can be filed into three categories; deviants, attention seekers, and those suffering from identity crisis.

Deviants are those who do so to attain some sort of sexual pleasure. Many of these types don't actually go through with any operation outside of breast augmentation, since many would rather stave off the more permanent decisions. Attention Seekers (by far, the most common) are the ones that began coining terms like "otherkin". These are not real things, and are typically just ways for the person in question to be special. And then there are those suffering from an identity crisis. They try to escape who they are or don't want to be, and what easier way to do that than to change your gender?

So it's a legitimate thing, yes. But odds are if you think you are one... You're probably not.
