I get Metroid, but Eternal Darkness is only one game that only core Nintendo fans know, but not many bought into, despite the praise. Wave Race hasn't been relevant since the early GameCube days. I think it could've gotten a new game since Wii Sports resort showed how motion controls could've provided a new experience for WR. Even then, it's still a small series.
Though I can think of bigger franchises like Smash Bros., DK, Mario Kart, and Pokemon that are just as well received as Metroid and sell more. Thus, Metroid, Mario, and Zelda aren't necessarily a trifecta as we usually thought before. Even then, Metriod is not necessarily a big selling franchise, selling up close to 20 million in all its games despite having a pretty good amount for 30 years. Don't get me wrong, I respect the franchise and have played some of their games, all which are pretty interesting (even Other M).
