Seen a bit about this, on one hand what they are asking is for a key to disable the security put in place on devices which only they would have access to... on the other hand if such a key existed and there was knowledge of it then Apple damn well knows that hackers will attempt to get their hands on it or copy it to compromise Apple customers data.... again.
Lets not forget that while Apple are making a big song and dance about minding their customers data.... that is really all this is to them, just a big PR stunt to try to get their customers forget about having their info hacked a couple of years back.
