I don't understand your logic of the developers not working on the PS3 because the 360 hadn't exist. If anything it would of lowered cost for them since they're just working on one platform. I get why the early games would of been launched a year later since the PS3 was a year late, but Call of Duty 4, Rock Band, Devil May Cry 4 would of been released around the same time. "The XBox 360 having never existed would be far more negative towards the "HD Console" market than it would be for the Wii." Its basic Sun Tzu/Art of War theories. Ask Nintendo if they would want to compete against one unified competitor or two opposing competitor beating each other up... |
I think you missed the point entirely ...
The PS3's first year software library was heavily padded with multiplatform games that were representitive of second year software from the XBox 360 and ports of the XBox 360's first year software. Without the XBox 360 this software would not have existed at this point in the PS3's life, and the entire library would have been dramatically weaker.
On top of this, the lack of a reason to divert resources towards the XBox 360 would have resulted in a greater quantity and quality of PS2 software leading up to (and following) the PS3's launch, which (potentially) would make the Wii's software library stronger (due to second rate PS2 ports).
You're thinking that the loss of the XBox 360 would have had no impact on the library of the PS3; this is (obviously) false being that few third party publishers are going to begin games 24 months in advance for the hope of releasing them soon after a system launches.
