You are making an assumption that price is the only motivating factor here.
That is not true.
I have seen studies (and unfortunately I do not have them at hand) that showed that the Wii buyers actually were more affluent than the other console buyers. This finding would not be surprising though as many PS3 and Xbox 360 purchasers are younger meaning that (a) they are at the lower earnings period in their work life or (b) still pursuing education and training opportunities which constrains their earning potential.
If price were the only motivator, then the college dorms should be filled with Wiis and the family living rooms with PS3s (and Xbox 360s). In fact, the opposite is more nearly true.
