Microsoft is always thinking very far ahead. Wich is how their current decisions make sense.
They have been turning towards the OS Windows as their platform and not the Xbox itself. They view the box itself as simply one of the hardwares for their platform. This logic is not unlike android. I think they have realised they would never be able to play in an even field with Playstation, since the Xbox brand doesn't have the same worldwide appeal.
Of course, when targeting the casual consumer this makes alot of sense, but won't encounter great acceptance within the hardcore croud. Also, i personally think it suffers from the same problem as mobile gaming. The people that are adopting the windows 10 platform hardware, are they really interested in gaming? Like mobile, there may be a handful of hits and a sea of duds.
