Well I don't think anyone reasonably should have excepted Boom Blox to have a big first week. Carnival games opened with 38k in the US despite a fairly decent amount of TV and print ads, and now it's a million seller. Plus up until a couple of weeks ago, I don't think many people were thinking Boom Blox would turn out as great as a lot of people have found it to be.
I thought it looked like a cool simple concept, but from what I've been reading they developers went to great lengths to exploit the concept in as many fun different ways as possible and put effort into each of these different areas to fully flesh them out.
So yeah, don't think Boom Blox's first week is really all that telling.
