Animal Crossing series producer Katsuya Eguchi has revealed some new information about the Wii version of Animal Crossing through an interview with Kikizo magazine.

Eguchi hopes to take advantage of the always-on WiiConnect24 online service with Animal Crossing Wii, as it’s revealed that players might be able to visit each other’s towns, even when the town’s owner is not online. Gamers would be able to interact with objects and neighbors in a town even when that town owner is away from their Wii and their console is powered off.

Most interesting, though, Eguchi gives an example of how players might be able to send and receive real e-mail using their own PC and Animal Crossing on Wii.

No official information has been announced for Animal Crossing Wii, thus readers should take note that these are just examples of ideas the series’ producer would like to implement with the title.

We’ll have more as it happens

I interviewed Katsuya Eguchi about Animal Crossing Wii back at E3 2005 and he discussed that very thing but since we didn't know much about the Wii or its abilities at that time, it didn't make much sense.   That and I don't think the translator fully comprehended it either.

I directly asked him about using the in-game mail service as an email system between gamers and he confirmed it at the time but made no mention of PC connectivity with it.

This torrent idea may have some plausibility to it.
