It is a cop-out yes, but I don't think a lot of people realize how utterly difficult it is to combat such horrid practices. This is because these practices have become so culturally engrained that complete removal is not an option. The best method of attack is education, which thankfully has been happening - but much work still needs to be done.
So I guess what I am saying is that the UN is really working on many of these issues, such as a campaign against female genital mutilation practices in Africa. But they can't hope to stop it completely - only stanch the flow a little.
In fact, 8 days ago (February 6th) was the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. That day probably came and passed for a lot of people because they weren't aware of it. The only reason a lot of you are aware of this specific "feminist issue" is because it was brought to your attention - as a threat. But why is this? Because now it concerns you. Am I calling all of you hypocrites? Maybe. But that isn't the right thing to do, and I apologize if I offended anyone, because we are all in this together. In fact, I'm glad you are all concerned with female issues worldwide, and I'll provide this link as further reading material about Feb 6th

Now I'll stop talking about that and vent a little.
As a feminist, one of the biggest things that pisses me off are the existences of people like Anita Sarkeisan or Brianna Wu who have absolutely no place as prominent figures. (Although, Wu did get rekt recently, thank God. Doubt she'll be back). They're scam artists whose background is either embellished or complete fiction. They make a mockery of a legitimate movement by screaming about gender "issues" they personally see and damn right they get fucked up for it. Anyone who lies for personal gain should get fucked up. And in this case? When there are critical issues that women face worldwide? They are making a blatant mockery, and now millions hate feminism because they see the movement as the product of what Sarkeisan and Wu represented. I wish it was a criminal offense to misrepresent feminism like that.
So many potential feminists, even here in this thread, who don't want to associate themselves with the movement because dingleberries like Sarkeisan and Wu made a mockery out of it. It really makes me sad.
So please, if all of you would read the link and realize that we are really trying to end these issues worldwide, that would be great! Don't hate the UN because it wants to investigate your rape games. We're all in this together.
