Usually, games as beloved as Pokemon (Mario, Zelda etc), their first games are cherished as classics. I guess the first Pokemon games were popular because the basic concept was just totally fresh and interesting? Are those of you who think they suck, are you guys old enough to have played the original FIRST? Because if not, that might be why there's so much backlash against them.
Well, that was the plan. I don't know how else I'd appreciate the improvments if I never played the original games. Although, again, I don't know how a game that was so beloved could be "terrible". People don't think the first Mario is terrible. This whole thing seems odd to me. |
I've been there from the start, and it's the truth: the orginal games didn't age so great.
Between the endless battles that happened if you made the mistake of clicking "Rage" against a ghost type, the skipped moves if you over leveled a Poke, to the extreme balance issues against the Psychic type, Gen I had loads of issues that make it borderline unplayable now, especially when compared to the newer games in the series.
Thankfully, it was all fixed in pkmn Gold and Silver, and I think that's by a mile one of the best ones in the series and layed the template for what many newer fans still like about the series today.
And it's not like this is the only series that suffers from aging poorly btw. Try playing GTAIII vs even any game in the series. You'll almost wonder how anyone even played through that game in 2001.
