There was in Super and in Return of Samus. You can see the retro-futuristic computors with the big, green, blocky fonts on them. It's etched into the design of the ship architecture. You can here it in the sound design of the ship/research facility in the beginning. You can see it in the way Samus is dressed in both Return and Super. It's in the way the HUD and menus are designed. It's incredebly imperceptive to say there were no signs of what the Metroid universe were back then. Samus in Fusion, Zero Mission, and Other M draw their characterization directly from that manga. It's the same canon. You may not have a problem with poorly written garble. Most people do. |
From the manga, huh? That explains it. Didn't even realize there was one. That explains why Fusion and Other M are my least favorite. They literally turned Samus into a fan service, sissy girl who has a bizarre love interest with her boss.
