But Uncharted isnt a perfect style, I feel its a game that gets tons of praise for its story but neglect how shallow the gameplay is. The Tomb Raider reboot was clearly inspired by gameplay mechanics of Uncharted. But focus on exploration is something Uncharted virtually lacks. Again, I do acknowledge Uncharted has inspired games. It was also inspired by many games before it... like Tomb Raider. |
Uncharted is designed to be a pulse pounding ride, but it doesn't fight the fact that its supposed to be linear. Tomb Raider tries to do the same thing but its flaw is that it tries to do that and give you exploration at the same time. This is what makes Uncharted ground breaking. Uncharted and Gears of War set the standard for how a linear/storybased action game should be in the new millenium. The next Uncharted might be more open, but I doubt Naughty Dog will let the openness affect the progression of story. Uncharted is like getting a ticket to indiana jones and playing the experience without any stops. Tomb Raider was better than the last by far but the story and character relationships still need a lot of work. I am most likely going to play that game a second time in march (with the baba yaga dlc, which im hearing isnt that great but what the heck) to get back in the groove with Uncharted.
