Antimatter propusion offers us the best chance to get out of our solar system.  May take us a hundred years or so, but it's only a matter of time before we have it eventually.

My reasons are more than just understanding technology to produce decent ways of travelling through space, it's a matter of scale of the Universe. The closest star is 4 light years away and it's moving like everything is. I think it's going to take a lot more that FTL to be able to journey beyond our system.
