I think the closet I've ever gotten to doing that was Dillon's Rolling Western and Sakura Samurai and Johnny Kung Fu. All great short games. I only ever watched one to to vids on them before deciding to purchase, but they played exactly as presented.
I do however, decide to buy games early on and tend to not let information affect my purchase unless its some practice by a dev I've personally found foul
