Yep....  The question is... will 2016 be the year the PS4 passed the Wii U in japan?

I think so honestly.

The gap is 660K, they have managed to out-sell Wii U, by 60K this month, if stay this way, will outsell the Wii U, by the end of the year, but might out-sell when Persona 4, or Final Fantasy XV, Launch.
