Not saying that I believe in weird coincidences, but I surely don't just let coincidences slide.
The dsi (ie: new ds; or newds for short :D ) was released 22 months before the 3ds
The new 3ds was released 17 months ago.
That would, in my crazy lizard brain, make the nx release in July, if it is a handheld.
