| KLAMarine said: I didn't compare Sony and Nintendo, I compared Sony to Fine Brothers. Both Sony and Fine Brothers went after PHRASES "Let's Play" and "x React", respectively. Both these phrases have formed portions of various video titles throughout the internet before Sony and Fine Brothers tried to trademark them. Nintendo is an asshole but at least they're going after videos that feature their IP, IP they paid to develop, IP that belongs to them. Sony and Fine Brothers went after literal phrases, phrases people are accustomed to using freely in their video titles. |
Stop putting the 'x' in 'x React'. Fine Bros. actually tried to trademark the word React. One of the trademark filings specifically says React (Serial no. 86689364 with the US Patent office on 2015-07-10), not just 'Children React' or 'Adults react' (They actually already hold the trademark on Elders React (Serial No. 85784615) and Kids React (SN# - 85784608)). For it to be analogous, Sony would have to be patenting the word Play.
Not that it's really relevant anyway, people were pissed off at Sony as well, and they also get pissed off at Nintendo. Fine Bros. just went above and beyond on this one.
