They could treat it the same way the NBA does, if you miss the Pro Bowl with injury then you can't play the following week. Injury risk isn't an issue with the Pro Bowl. Can anyone remember the last time someone was hit with a big injury during the Pro Bowl? I remember some Pats guy having his career ended in some flag football game that might have been Pro Bowl related, but it wasn't the Pro Bowl. And it's the Patriots, who cares.

There's really no solution here because the game is so watered down it makes it boring to watch. It's not like other sports where there might be less emphasis on defense and contact in their AS games, but they make up for it with awesome fan service events and high scoring, entertaining games. They should bring back things like the QB challenge. Hell, they could get rid of the entire game and just make it a bunch of position specific challenges, even that would be more entertaining than the Pro Bowl.
