I only see a November 2017 release on a few simple points:
-Nintendo has never released a home console the same year as its E3 debut
-Nintendo has maintained a 5-6 year gap between home console release dates since the NES, why would it change?

1. That holds as much weight as saying that Nintendo hasn't made a game like Splatoon before Splatoon was announced.

2. Things would change because they've never been so dire before and this time around the software output for handheld and home console will be much more unified than in the past, meaning that Nintendo won't need a substantial gap between the launch dates of new handheld and home console to provide both systems with adequate support for their respective launch period.

1 - The two don't really correlate. Nintendo requires time to polish their systems, and they only debut it once its ready to be mass marketed, and then start full scale production. This goes hand in hand with AMD's expected profits for November this year, when the processor order is delivered. It'll never get out in time for 2016.

2 - Nintendo is far from dire. They can fail for another 10 years and still have enough money to stay afloat between Wii and 3ds sales, pokemon series merchandising, as well as their other original ip merchandising. They rushed the Wii U and flopped, they won't be so hasty next time.
