No Metroids...

No Turn based FF AAA games even after FF7R was announced and giving Nomura full reign over it...I'll give FFXV a try because honestly there's just so little that appeal to my RPG tastes now. There's a lack of simplicity and serenity in the larger budgeted RPG games. The better ones are all about getting as in depth with real human conflictions as possible, which is nice, but then they either lore the shit out of the narrative or just plain pussy out on it to where I just don't care about the events that unfold and nothing mesmerizing is done with the events of that story's created universe.

I'll even take a campy RPG story over that because grit really isn't grit until you show the contrast between the lighter and darker side of life. You can't only show the darker or more mature realistic situations. You have to balance it out with light hearted moments and charm, so that when the more mature moments happen you have variety AND a better connection to the characters.

I used to like Bethesda's approach, but the novelty wore off for exploring lots of huge dungeons. An omnipresent story is really needed to make those things feel important in an RPG. I think that's the other problem I have with most well reviewed RPGs these days. They dont' really have an omnipresent story. They have all these disconnected or at the very least disjointed take-it-or-leave-it sidequests that don't really matter to the main story; usually because the main story isn't all that interesting or remotely intimidating in scope.

But of course the creators will skimp out on that by putting all the interesting stuff in lore FFS.
