| RolStoppable said: The mega kitty thread has developed into sub-discussions and already seen a spinoff thread, so I thought I make one as well. The topic that I will be tackling is consumer trust, namely that "Zelda U has to be Wii U exclusive because Nintendo owes it to their fans" and everything else that is relevant to that line of thinking. I get it, some Wii U owners feel like they deserve a reward for sticking with Nintendo during these rough times, but the reality is that you already got it. There's a good chance that in 2015 you bought one or more of the following games: Splatoon, Yoshi's Woolly World, Super Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles X. There's also a good chance that you really enjoyed at least one of them. And in the previous years you bought and enjoyed Wii U games as well. Besides, a dual-platform release of Zelda U would still allow you to play the game on your Wii U. On the other hand, those who don't own a Wii U missed out on a lot of great games. Looking at the even bigger picture, there's the belief that Nintendo has to please their most loyal fans because it is them who will accompany Nintendo even during the times when things aren't rosy. Conversely, things that are done to please current non-consumers are considered offensive. Essentially, the Wii U owner is the most valuable Nintendo fan while the non-Wii U owner is scum who doesn't deserve anything; not now and not in the future. Currently we are in a very similar situation as ten years ago when the GameCube was on its last legs and Twilight Princess was prepared for a dual-platform release. Nintendo's Revolution, later called the Wii, also wasn't a continuation of the GC philosophy. As you can see below my avatar, I've been here since early 2007. So let's talk a little about the Wii, also known as: The Judas of Gaming [...] |
Actually in the other thread I didn't even remotely consider Wii U exclusivity or not of Zelda or other titles as one of the possible reasons to delay or accelerate Home NX release.
I agree with you, Zelda most likely won't be Wii U exclusive, and not only this, IMVHO the vast majority of Wii U gamers won't mind about it being multiplat, they'll just be very happy if there will be a Wii U version. Ninty has most reasons to make it multiplat, few reasons to make it a NX exclusive (maybe some more reasons to make it a NX launch timed exclusive) and even fewer reasons to make it a Wii U exclusive. Outside of gaming forums, most people don't even remotely care if a game they like is also on other platforms, they just care that it be on a platform they own, and in many cases they know some franchises are Ninty exclusives, but they aren't by any means offended if a game is on more than one Ninty platform, they are obviously happy if they own a Ninty console and a good Ninty game is available on it, but they won't hate Nintendo if it releases that game on other platforms, most of them will be happy instead for other gamers being able to play it.
