You underestimate how much I suck at the game.

After dying 3 times against the Vita at level 53, I took the option to bring it down to level 45, and I still couldn't win, even with an 8 level advantage.

Didn't I tell you that your character level has no influence on skell stats? Or did I delete that post?

If you can board level 50 skells, that's all that matters for the boss (one level 50 and three level 30 skells are already good enough). The most important part of the battle is that you identify the correct satellites and destroy them quickly. A correctly timed backslash attack can kill or almost kill such a satellite. If you are doing single point damage to a satellite, then it's most definitely the wrong one. Once you've killed two or three satellites, the shield goes down and you should have enough time to finish the boss off. The longer it takes you to remove the shield, the higher the chance that your party members lose their skells.

Your problem isn't your level, it's the execution. A higher level won't solve your basic problem.

I was actually going to do the Vita battle on foot just cos I am scared of losing my skells and not being to use them on the final boss.

My issue with the satellites is that it seems obvious to take out the one called the "shield" satellite, and indeed this does work, but its health goes down so incredibly slowly that Vita is back to nearly full HP by the time I get rid of it.
