Oh that's great he is an amazing actor, now I have more interest in this movie |
You should be less concerned about the actors and more concerned about the writers and director. If the screenplay and directing aren't good quality then the movie will be crap regardless of the actors. And if the screenplay and directing are good, then the movie will be good even without big name actors.
So here are the creds of the director and writers
Director Justin Kurzel http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2355933/?ref_=ttfc_fc_dr1 has directed 3 feature length movies to date all of them decently reviewed:
The Snowtown Murders. 83% rotten tomatoes
Macbeth (I) (2015) (also starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, which is sort of a good thing, means these 2 quality actors are fine with working with the guy again). 80% rotten tomatoes
The Turning - doesn't really count as it's a series of short films directed by a whole bunch of people.
So far looks promising
Writers
Bill Collage - Not going to list all his movies, but he has a pretty bad track record rotten tomatoes-wise only one movie above 60%. So he's basicaly a B-list or C-list writer.
Adam Cooper - Basically Bill's buddy and thus has the same record for writiung as Bill, i.e. not good.
Michael Lesslie - Was one of 3 screenwriters on MacBeth. But seriously how can you fuck up the screenplay for MacBeth? The play is the play, you just have to not go trying to put your own slant on it.
So, based on director there is some hope. But the let down as with almost all video game adaptations is that they can't convince quality writers to hold their nose and write a movie script for a video game.
Thus actors aside, and despite having a proimising director I just don't think the screenplay is likely to be up to scratch.
