Yep ,  also it doesn't do there image any good after all we see many people talking about how they like Nintendo for the fact that they are in the main  family freindly.

The question is why didn't they cut it from the Japanese release that way they have no problem ,now it makes them look like they are two faced.

Well publishers always took into consideration what is deemed accepatble in various countries.

I believe religous references were removed in western games. While violence has often been censored in Japanese games. There plenty of games that get banned in various countries as well.

I don't think its about what NIntendo feels is acceptable, its more about them trying to gauge the culture.

The fact is in this case it was obvious that this scenario wasn't going to go down well regardless of cultural differences ,and that was played out by the amount of Japanese unease .

With the big developers aiming their games more and more at an international audience , the days  of putting up ""cultural differences" as a valid argument are now long gone or should be , one answer to a lot of these stories  not blowing up in the first place , is to look at the script/ event planning and deciding early whether any scandalous happenings are critical to the telling of the story and gameplay and also what rating are you hoping for or prepared to have.
