I'd be fine with it
I wouldn't want to see it happen or go down, where they just couldn't make it work. But that would be 2 less devices I'd have to buy every generation, and as you said I'm a fan of Nintendo's software, not their hardware, and wherever their software goes either to the other consoles, PC, mobile, or all 3 and do just fine.
I've owned every Nintendo console and handheld except virtual boy (and all the new SKUs), and if Nintendo went to Steam, PS, XBox, or Apple / Android, I'd be just fine.
