Hard to say , one way or the other , but if you go back through historic jrpgs sales in the west , European sales side is pretty poor and his has led to many games getting released a year or more late there and then it is quite often only because of a small niche publisher . |
That is indeed true, but XCX isn't exactly what you would consider a typical JRPG, so the argument isn't exactly one that can be used, XCX doesn't look like your typical JRPG, if it weren't for it being done by Nintendo, you may aswell call it a WRPG.

From the NPD data we know that it sold more than 200K physical copies, excluding digital format. This means that American numbers should be sitting at 220K, more or less. About the French numbers, we must remember that it's only shipped + digital. Maybe that quantity has already sold out, maybe not, perhaps that's the only print Nintendo Europe it's planning to distribute in France, I honestly don't know; although if anyone has more information about this, that would be appreciated, but I'm not counting those 40K units for sold to consumers' numbers. I don't know, I'm having the impression X could have tanked in Europe. |
220k in USA alone, would pretty much suggest that the 292k are indeed from NA alone, since we would still be missing numbers from the following 16 days after the end of the December NPD tracking, Canada, and Mexico, which should complete the missing 72k with ease. Well seeing how it is now at 293k, it is quite the slow rate of growth for it to be the whole west.
From my knowledge, from what I have seen here and GAF, whenever we get numbers from NoF, they are sold to consumer numbers, once we even getting weekly numbers for Animal Crossing New Leaf(http://nintendoeverything.com/more-nintendo-sales-numbers-from-france/), so from the knowledge we have, that 40k is sold to consumers in the first 12 days of sales.
Well it doesn't seem to be doing bad, from UK first week and France's first 12 days it already got 50k, and by VGC numbers that is already around 1/4 of what the original did on Wii, and with Germany, the smaller markets, and the following days of sales we don't have clear date for, the game could be anywhere between 120k - 200k in Europe, which is pretty good considering the install base of Wii U in Europe, and how the series is just starting to establish itself.
Though the best way to know if the 293k is only for NA, is for someone with a European/PAL Wii U and a copy of the game to check the times the titan has been slayed, which would most surely present a smaller number than in NA, meaning hte 290k is indeed for NA alone.
