I just made it to episode 8 and the story is great.
Though the anime reminds me too much of Death Note.

Yep.  I've seen the first... 20 something episodes of it.  Watched up until the deciding point where the directors could end it if they chose and they chose to do a second season.  Still haven't watched the second season yet though.

Series is its own plural... just like anime.

They aren't popular shows but they're some of my favorites.
