I gotta agree with bdbdbd here that Wii U was a retread of the Gamecube, not the Wii, hence the similar sales.

The Wii was a forward thinking console; Wii U, like Gamecube, was a backwards thinking console, applying a 90s mindset to a 21st century market.

if this was really true why are the other two consoles doing SO much better? Hell even the PS360 didnt do to bad in the end. They both ended selling more than most Ninty consoles do period.

What do other consoles have to do with it?

the other consoles are more run of the mil and they are doing fine. So why does it take Ninty to be "forward thinking" to have to not flop? (i personally believe they were NOT forward thinking, they just id something different that worked)

We should look at what works for Nintendo and not just contrast with MS and Sony because Nintendo can't and shouldn't just emulate them.

Last gen Nintendo did come out on top in terms of console sales when it was Nintendo's Wii vs Sony's PS3 vs Microsoft's X360.

But looking at the past console cycles and comparing them to more current cycles doesn't really help though because of changing markets.

If you did you could also say that most Nintendo consoles sold better than the original Xbox, but what does that matter?

Nintendo should look at their contemporary competitors (ie XBone, PS4) and the NX should be something that would be a compelling option to consumers.

That means learning from the mistakes of the Wii U and making all the necessary changes while also giving people a real reason to choose their console.

fair points but that doesnt really answer my question
