Neither PS4 or XB1 did that though. Nor did Xbox 360. (Which was the successor to a 4 year lifespan console.)

Exactly.  And the same goes for the Wii:  Although the "revolution" was mentioned as early as E3 2004, the console's official E3 unveiling - the name, the games and the Wiimote (seen first at TGS six months prior) - was E3 2006, with the system launching fall of the same year.
