Ultimately it doesn't really even matter that much. Fall 2016 or spring 2017 ... no big difference.

It's not as if the Wii U is magically going to get a new Metroid and Paper Mario and Animal Crossing because the NX comes in 2017 some time.

Game development internally at Nintendo has to be focused on the

1.) The 3DS successor
2.) NX, if it's a separate home console
3.) Smartphone games
4.) Wii U/3DS

3DS successor is the most important of all of them. If that fails, then Nintendo is probably going third party and you can stop worrying about the consoles period, because without portables, Nintendo would've been third party already.

When the 3DS launched back in 2011, mobile was already growing strong but it wasn´t such a huge monster as it is now, so the 3DS successor, whatever it is, is the first Nintendo handheld system that´ll be launched in a time where mobile has probably done the most damage to the dedicated handheld market it´ll ever do (or am I wrong?)....so, with the possible shared OS/library and Nintendo´s attempt at raising awareness for their franchises through mobile in hopes it´ll get more people to get their dedicated hardware...and I know it´s too soon to discuss it, but how likely is it that you see a good number of people who play on mobile to shell out more $$$ for another handheld, even if they enjoyed Nintendo content on their smartphones/tablets?
